Sauðárkrókur
Sauðárkrókur – remarkable fishing at Toilet Beach
Sauðárkrókur has a remarkable beach. At times the sea run char and seatrout are everywhere. There is just a few things I have to add to my describtion of the area, town and the fishing.
Toiletpaper and other things are usually floating around in the water along the beach. So at this point I do not care about the hundreds of fish I can catch during a single weekend here.
The police in town are waiting “behind the bushes”. Waiting for anyone to make a mistake at the full stop signs. The service around town is at a all time low. The upsides can be countet on two fingers. The towns wonderfull bakery and the amount of fish in the sea.
I might sound a bit harsch here but I don´t care. Iceland needs to work on everything. They do not deserve anyones money.
All good
Good service and fair prices when it comes to Bed and Breakfast can be found here. Old but renovated cozy house. This is not a paid advert! It is my rekommandation: Sleep here…
The beach
From early spring until late fall the sea run brown trout are plenty. In the summertime the same can be said about the sea run char.
When there is no wind, the many fish can be seen breaking the surface all over the beach. I sight to behold.
The fishing is free of charge.
The northwest corner is great for middle-sized char. Se the spot her: The spot…
The rest of the beach is equally good for both species. The whole beach from, this point, and towards east often provides the angler with decent seatrout and sometimes large specimens. Keep a 200–300-meter distance to the mouth of the river. The locals don´t. So, I guess it is up to anyone that visits…
I use spoons and also flyfish when fishing along Toilet Beach at Sauðárkrókur. Sandeel and light colored shrimps are the main diet of the areas fish. Therefore, I use bait that is as close to color wise.
The worst thing when it comes to fishing along the beach, besides the toilet thing, is murky waters. Because of the glacier river Héraðsvötn, fed by the Hofsjökull Glacier, the water along the beach often gets colored. When the water gets brown, do not spend time at the beach. However, if it is milky the fishing is great. Have in mind, the clearer the water is the better.
Wind from the south is always preferable.
I wish you the best fishing alongside the beach of Sauðárkrókur.
